We’ve got the crew, the equipment, and the expertise for efficient (emergency) service on both diesel and steam-powered ships. We have been in the business for over 55 years and are located in the heart of Los Angeles and Long Beach harbor. Rely on us for rush and emergency jobs. We operate on an around-the-clock basis, seven days a week. Maintaining a fleet of trucks, portable welding machines, and equipment for shipboard services. Backed by a fully equipped machine shop, welding fabrication shop, hydraulic shop, and an insulation shop.
Depend on us to complete a job with the least number of man-hours. Dockside has a cadre of experienced licensed marine engineers and skilled machinists, welders, and electricians. Our labor force is the largest in the area that can be readily deployed to meet all your Ship Repair & Maintenance needs.

Our Facilities
Our facilities include machine shops with large and precision lathes, horizontal and vertical milling machines, as well as broaching, line boring, drilling, and pressing capabilities. Our Weld Shops include capabilities for all types of welding and cutting, including:

- CUNI

- cast iron
- MIG
- TIG
- plasma cutting
- wire feed operations
Our Hydraulic Shop handles all types of actuators and piston rod reconditioning, including the ability to hydrostatically test up to 10,000 psi.
Important stats
Dockside Machine & Ship Repair started business in 1946. It was purchased by the parent company Marine Technical Services in 2001. MTS has been in business since 1989.
Reputation: Dockside Machine & Ship Repair has been providing quality and reliable service to vessels calling on the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach since 1946.
Depth: We are the largest ship repair company in the LA/LB area and have the greatest depth in regards to full time mechanics and welders. We have facilities and maintain full time mechanics within 15 minutes of any berth in the Ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach.
Certification: Our management team includes US Coast Guard licensed marine engineers for ocean-going vessels of unlimited horsepower. Our service engineers have extensive experience in all types of lifeboats, release gear, davits, and winches, and are certified service technicians for several other manufacturers. Our welders are certified with the US Coast Guard, the American Bureau of Shipping, Germanischer Lloyd, and Lloyd’s Register.
Training: Each service engineer attains company training via:
a) General Safety Training including forklift, firefighting, rigging, material handling, etc.
b) Specific product training as required by the equipment manufacturer, and
c) On the job training by experienced Supervisors and journeymen.
d) Company maintains records for all Service Engineers & equipment they worked on.
